Green Office Space

TriLibrium is growing and that means we need to move our office. Of course we're doing everything to be as sustainable as possible and so I thought it would be fun to engage my readers in the process.

What are some of the leading edge ideas for professional office space?
What should be included? What should we avoid?

We are looking for suggestions, ideas and recommendations on every aspect of moving a business and readying the space from equipment suggestions, to materials, build out, furnishings, etc.

It is likely that we'll have new offices by February 1st. I look forward to starting a dialog and blogging about it as we move forward.

P.S. I like the "HELP" in the picture, not the paper. TriLibrium used less than three reams of paper in our first year of operations.

Try the Olympic Mill Commerce Center http://www.olympicmill.com/ or LeftBank Project http://leftbankproject.com/.

Thanks for the recommendations Peter. We have a short list of places were looking at but I'm thinking more about the buildout and furnishings aspect of the project.

Any thoughts there?

Managing your business financial procedure can be the most complicated part of running any business . Every business man wants his business to be the most successful, but it is very difficult to know where to begin. It is no matter how big your organization may be, Dallas CPA services guarantee you of all the accounting and financial services for your company.

Thank you for your comment Dallas Accountant. I agree that running a business is challenging however, a comprehensive strategic/business plan will reveal critical priorities.

Using a triple-bottom line strategy, we look for win/win/win opportunities. For instance, at TriLibrium, we are implementing a mandatory 1 hour/week volunteer during working hours requirement. The time will be compensated by our firm but we want our people out serving the community beyond just our paying customers.

The cost to our firm is payroll plus the opportunity cost. The benefits however are significant to our employees, the community, and our firm.

In the old paradigm, people saw trade offs between people, planet and profit. In the new paradigm, we search for synergistic opportunities.

Just to give you some ideas how I see us greening our new office:

* Energy Star rated equipment
* "Green" office furnishings to the extent possible
* No bottled water
* Bulk purchases of tea and coffee
* Artwork by local artists
* Cloth napkins made from reclaimed materials
* Used rather than new utensils for our kitchen
* A single trash can for the entire office
* Lots of recycling bins
* Free bus tickets for any client who travels to us by bike, foot or transit: One ticket for our client and we'll also donate a second ticket to a social service agency.
* Conference room available for non-profits and community groups.

That's a short list to get the creative juices flowing.

@Richard - Our office are beautiful. We expanded in January '11 after moving in here in February '10.

Much of our furniture has been made with reclaimed FSC wood. Our desks are reclaimed doors from The Heathman Hotel. Our reception station is made from reclaimed wood that was under a garage for 10 years. Our building uses a ground source heat pump for cooling and heating. We have showers so we can ride our bikes to work.

@Accountants in London. Thank you for the kind words.
